Edward Bytheway

Son of Edward Bytheway (1803-1851) from Bilston, Staffordshire, England and Sara (Owen) Bytheway (1807) from Shropshire England.. Edward was a stone minor by the age of ten.  In 1861, Edward married Jane and had six children in Shropshire, England.   In 1869 he emigrated to Pennsylvania to for promising work in the coal mines.  Jane followed a year later and they added to the family six more children.

Daughter of William Causer (1819-????) in Bilston, Staffordshire, England and Elizabeth Humphries (1821-1920).  Jane was an illegitimate child, her parents never married.  Jane had 12 children with Edward Bytheway; Sara Phoebe (1861, Elizabeth Jane (1865), Edward (1867), twins Joseph and Mary (1868), Joseph William (1869),  Emma (1872), John George (1874), William (1877), Joseph (1879), Alice (1883) and Charles Henry (1887).  The twins Joseph and Mary did not live very long as well as Joseph William.

Edward Bytheway

Edward Bytheway of Saltsburg died in his late home yesterday afternoon at 2:45 o'clock.  He was a son of Edward and Jane Bytheway and was born January 19th, 1867 in Yorkshire, England.  Mr. Bytheway was mine superintendent for the Keystone Coal Company, Mooween, PA., for twenty eight years, retiring in 1936.  Before coming to Saltsburg, the deceased had resided in Westmoreland County and Madison, PA.  He was a member of Williamson Lodge No 431 F. and A. M., Saltsburg; Shrine, Syria Mosque, Pittsburg; I. O. O. F. Madison PA. and the Bloomsburg Consistory.  His second wife, Mae Laura (Widdup) Bytheway preceded him in death. The where-about of his first wife Margaret Ann and daughter Jane Phoebe are unknown.  Surviving are three daughters, Blanche Elizabeth., and Margaret G., and Mrs. Fannie B. Wilcox, all at the Bytheway home in Saltsburg.  One granddaughter Betty Ann Bytheway also survives.  The deceased was a brother of John Bytheway, Herminie, PA; William, Pittsburg; Charles, Bradenville; Mrs. Sara Wilkes Windber; Mrs. Elizabeth Trigger, Greensburg; Mrs. Emma Sarsfield, Herminie and Mrs. Alice Adams of Pittsburgh.  Friends were being received at his late home where services were held Sunday, January 15 at 3:00 o'clock.  Reverend Lloyd S. Erb of Monessen will officiate.  Interment will be made in the Saltsburg Cemetery. Reference Indiana Evening Gazetta 13Jan1952


Mae Laura Bytheway

Mrs. Edward Bytheway died in her late home, Saltsburg, Sept. 4, 1946 at 10:20 o'clock p.m. following an illness of two years.  She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John V. Widdup and born Feb. 2, 1822 in Clarksville, Washington county.  She is survived by her husband Edward Bytheway and the following children: John Edward, Pittsburg; Robert W., Newark N.J.; Blanche E., and Margaret G., both at home and Mrs. Fannie B. Wilcox, St. George Bermuda.  She was a sister of J.D. Widdup, Waynesburg, PA.; Mrs. Mary Floyd, Jeannette and Mrs. Grace Washabaugh, New Wilmington, PA.  The deceased was a member of the Baptist church of Saltsburg and the Order of Eastern Star, Lodge 286 Saltsburg.  She had been a resident of Saltsburg for the past 36 years.  Friends were received in the family home where the services were held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock.  Rev John Dornhoefer, pastor of the Baptist church officiated.  Internment followed in the Saltsburg cemetery.

Blanche Bytheway

Miss Bytheway, daughter of Edward Bytheway (1867 - 1952), was a member of the First Baptist Church, OES No. 286, Senior Citizens, Historical Society, and Rebekah Lodge No. 170, all of Saltsburg. Surviving are two sisters: Mrs. William (Fannie) Wilcox, Saltsburg; Margaret G., San Jose, Calif.; two brothers: John Edward, Youngstown, Ohio and Robert W., Santa Clara, Calif. Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. Saturday 'and 24 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday in the Joseph R. Hunter Funeral Home, Saltsburg, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday. Rev, David L.H. Carlisle will officiate with interment in the Edgewood Cemetery, Saltsburg.

William S. Wilcox

1902 - 1992

 

William Wilcox was born in Sardis, Harrison County, West Virginia to Chas Wilcox (1973) and Anna Wilcox (1878) Other members of his family from Clarksburg are Charles Wilcox (1904),  Gertrude Wilcox (1907), Helene Wilcox (1913), and Reba (Rebecca nicknamed Buck?) Wilcox (1816).  William married Agnes Wilcox about 1928 where the census shows him as living in Clarksburg, WV and he was divorced before moving to Bermuda where he married Fannie Grace Bytheway.  He worked as a civil engineer in Pennsylvania designing and building bridges and dams. William was survived by one niece-in-law, Patricia Wilcox.  William's second married was to Fannie Grace Bytheway in Bermuda in September 1941.  They later moved back to the Saltsburg PA house in 1947, one year after Fannie's mother Mae Laura died.


Fannie Grace (Bytheway) Wilcox

Fannie B. Wilcox, 94, of Saltsburg, daughter of Edward Bytheway (1867 - 1952), died Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2006, in Latrobe Area Hospital. She was born April 7, 1911, in Moween to the late Edward and Mae L. (Widdup) Bytheway.  She married William Wilcox in Bermuda, lived there for six years and then lived in Saltsburg for most of her life. Mrs. Wilcox graduated from California State Teachers College, where she was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma sorority, and was a teacher in Loyalhanna Township and the Saltsburg School District for 28 years before retiring in 1974. She was a member of Saltsburg Presbyterian Church; the Order of the Eastern Star, Apollo; AARP Round Top Chapter, Export; the PSEA, and the Indiana County Retired Schoolteachers Association. Also predeceased by her husband, William S. Wilcox, who died in 1992; sisters, Blanche Bytheway, who died in 1988, and Lt. Col. Margaret Bytheway, who died in 2003, and brothers, John Bytheway, who died in 2001, and Robert W. Bytheway, who died in 1997. Surviving are many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the CURRAN FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES, 701 Salt St., Saltsburg, where services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Susan Porch Lantz officiating. Burial in Edgewood Cemetery, Saltsburg.

Margaret Gwynne Bytheway

Margaret Gwynne Bytheway, daughter of Edward Bytheway (1867 - 1952),  died in 2003 of pancreatic cancer without ever getting married or having children. Margaret served in the US Army as a nurse and retired as a Lt. Col. Margaret (Peg) served in WWII and the Korean war. Peg and Robert W. Bytheway were very close while they were growing up and throughout their adult years. Peg served in the US Army as a nurse and retired as Lt. Col. Throughout her army career, she was a part of WWII, Korea and Vietnam. She traveled to Germany, France, Italy, Austria and the middle east. Margaret Bytheway was born on 07/15/1914 and died on 07/31/2003. Margaret Bytheway ashes are buried in the cemetery: Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery , which is located in San Diego, Ca.

Robert Winston Bytheway

Robert Bytheway, son of Edward Bytheway (1867-1952),  relocated to Washington DC after WWII as a SSGT in the US Army Air Corps and started working for Capital Airlines as an aircraft mechanic working on DC3 aircraft. He met Virginia Campbell from Des Moines, Iowa who was going to school in Washington DC and they married. He had three sons, Glenn Edward (1951), Robert Alan (1953), William Henry (1954) and one daughter Susan Elaine (1965). Capital Airlines was purchased by United Airlines and he was given an opportunity to move to the San Francisco area as a maintenance supervisor at SFO refurbishing Boeing 727 aircraft. We settled in 1966 in Santa Clara, California. In 1969, Virginia died of brain cancer. Robert later remarried Shirley Turner from Sunnyvale in 1980 and they continued to live in Santa Clara until his death Sept. 11, 1997. He died at the hospital after a failed attempt to clear a a blocked artery. 


Virginia (Campbell) Bytheway

19Apr1927 - 19Feb1970

 

Virginia Campbell was born in Mt. Pleasant Iowa to Glenn Palmer Campbell (1896-1965) and Gladys Violet (Ashe) Campbell (1894-1957).  She grew up on the farm and play in the high school band.  After graduating she moved to Washington DC where she met Robert, who worked for Capital Airlines.  They bought a house in the suburbs of Alexandria, VA where they lived in from 1953 to 1965.  In 1965 the family moved to Santa Clara, California.  She died in 1970 after fighting brain cancer for three years.  She was survived by her husband Robert (Bob), sons Glenn, Robert and William; and daughter Susan.  Susan as a toddler moved in her aunt Margaret Gwynne who raised her to adulthood.

Edward Bytheway

Edward died of a coronary occlusion at at Weirton General Hospital in Weirton, Hancock, West Virginia. His occupation was Laborer-Coal mine and lived at 243 Colliers Way, Weirton, Hancock, West Virginia.  The name of the informant was Mrs. Henry Sugier of Weirton, West Virginia.  Edward was born in England.

Joseph Bytheway

Joseph Bytheway, 84 years old, died at 9:55 o'clock Saturday night at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Harry Gardner, of Wegley. Surviving are his widow and the following children: Edward, of Bertha; Mrs. Harry Gardner, of Wegley; Joseph J. W., Mrs. L.H. Crowe, Mrs. S.C. George, Mrs. Robert Dickson and Mrs. Jack Finfrock, all of Greensburg; Mrs. James Stevenson, of Wegley, and Robert C. Bytheway, of Pittsburgh. Forty eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Harry Gardner, at Wegley. Thresa Fellows Bytheway

Mrs. Thresa Bytheway, 74, formerly a resident of Greensburg and widow of Joseph Bytheway, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harry Gardner at Wegley at 7:30 o'clock this morning. She is survived by ten children as follows: Edward, of Bertha, Pa.; Mrs. Harry Gardner, of Wegley; Joseph, J. W. Bytheway, Mrs. L.H. Crowe, Mrs. S.C. George, Mrs. Robert Dickson and Mrs. Jack Finfrock, all of Greensburg; Mrs. James Stevenson, Wegley and Robert C. Bytheway, of Pittsburgh. Forty-nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be held from the home of her daughter, Mrs. Gardner at Wegley, Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock.  Reference Greensburg Daily Tribune April 22, 1933 .

John George Bytheway

John G. Bytheway, 96 of Windber, formerly of Herminie, died in Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg.  He was born December 29, 1874 in Westmoreland County, a son of the late Edward and Jane Causer Bytheway.  He was a member of Cambria Lodge No. 278, F. & A.M., and the Scottish Rites of Williamsport Consistory.  Surviving are a son; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Mary Bytheway with whom he made his home; 14 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren, and an sister.  His wife, Mrs. Margaret D. Dunsmuir Bytheway, died in 1961.

Robert C. Bytheway

03Feb1903 - 07Jul1968

 

Robert Bytheway, 66, Columbus, Ohio, died Sunday evening on his way to the hospital. Death was due to a heart attack. He was born Feb. 3, 1902 in Crabtree, PA, a son of the late Joseph and Theresa Bytheway. Surviving are his wife, Mary; a brother and two sisters: John Bytheway, Greensburg; Mrs. Theresa Dickson, Greensburg; Mrs. Feam Stevenson, Jeannette; a number of nieces and nephews. The body will be taken to Barnhart Funeral Home, 505 East Pittsburgh St., Greensburg, Wednesday. Services will be held there Friday morning at 10:30. .
